Has someone ever said something to you that felt like a sharp, penetrating prick? We all have aspects of ourselves that are pushed underground - shadows. Some are the negative pieces that we would rather not look at, and frankly are in total denial that they even exist, like the obnoxious self, or the overindulgent self, ugly self, etc. Just as many are the beautiful parts of ourselves that we've forgotten about - strong, talented, attractive.
You can tell when someone has stepped on your shadow because you either feel strongly offended (if it's a negative piece) or inspired and envious (for the positive.)
Enlightenment begins with healing - integrating these detached pieces of our whole being back into awareness. You know this:) Looking at it stinks. Integrating it is downright uncomfortable.
But hear this - any negative piece has a positive flip side, so to make it less painful and more fun and challenging, simply focus on integrating the positive and the rest will come naturally.
Each piece of yourself that you integrate makes you more luminous, radiant and light-filled. Soon, I'll have to wear sunglasses in your presence!

This recently happened to me (as you know)and as a result I've decided to embrace and integrate my "inner athlete" which I have denied for most of my life...
I took my first yoga class today...I felt like crying half way through, as I tried to hold this pose and that stretch...shaking and weak. I had an overwhelming feeling of the blocks in my body and felt as though some where releasing...I wanted to crawl into a ball, cry and give up; validating the old tapes in my head that say "see you're no athlete" but I didn't, I stayed to the end. And let what came up, come up :)
Then I realized after reading your blog that I have to start at the beginning...she's weak from being denied and needs to build up her strength!
Thank you so much!
Much love, g
BEAUTIFUL!!! I love that story miss g. You are the bomb - much love to you. k
What a cool blog, Kimberly. I look forward to reading your book. This posting reminded me of a moment I had with Nora (my 16 month old daughter) today. She has recently discovered her shadow and she was waving at it on the sidewalk. It is part of her self-discovery--that there is a part of her that is "out there" for the world to see, but I hope she will always be true to her inner self--her God-given identity--and will always be strong no matter what others say or do. I am sure she will struggle with this (don't we all) but for now she's so delighted with herself and it reminds me to be pleased with myself, too.
Best wishes to you, Kimberly, for your work, and life! Hope to see you sometime soon.
