Simple things we can do..

Today is Earth Day. I've been inspired by the media it has received encouraging us all to do what we can to protect her.

Yesterday I achieved official granola status when I purchased my reusable grocery bags at Trader Joes...

Today I requested that I be taken off junk mail lists and credit card prescreening lists (where companies obtain your credit rating and use it to send you "pre-approved" offers.) You can do both on www.dmaconsumers.org.

I've also learned of an organization that recycles computers - www.intechra.com.

Aside from increasing my dork factor about 500% with the reusable grocery bags, I feel very good about myself.

Any simple ideas to save the planet would be greatly appreciated!

Kimberly,
It's ok - your cute factor goes up proportionality to your dork factor.
This is great information. I can do my part with eliminating junk mail and using reusable grocery bags.
A simple idea to help pass the information on to the children was to bring a trash bag with us hiking and help with cleaning the trails. Most of the trails around here are highly maintained however there is usually a couple of items we see. The children are learning about Earth Day and our planet in school. I felt including them would help reinforce these lessons.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Kimberly,

It's great to recycle, and it's better to not purchase unnecessary stuff.

Thanks for the great post.

We can be dorks together :)

I think working on the things we can't necessarily see that effect the future is also important for our earth and her atmosphere... I get really sad when I think about not being able to step out into the GREAT OUTDOORS. It may not happen in my lifetime but I wouldn't want it to happen in anyone's lifetime.... so my next purchase will be an electic car...talk about dork factor!
much love
