Recently I read in A Course in Miracles that the collective ego becomes "murderous" in the face of guiltlessness, as being free of guilt threatens the ego's very existence.
What does it mean to be guiltless? It means to be rooted so firmly in love that it's impossible to perceive yourself or anyone else as guilty. Misguided - sure. Mistaken - of course. But never fundamentally guilty.
It's a risk to rise above the collective mind - a risk that is natural for those who know better. I'm not sure why I'm writing about this subject, as it is heavy and can be frightening. But I wanted to share the answer I received from the question of "Why?"
The answer - that the ego is threatened by love - is a good one, and perhaps understanding why unconscious people react so strongly to pure love will provide inspiration and courage for us on our respective journeys toward inner and outer peace.

ya it's dangerous enough just taking on one ego, let alone the collective... these people were very courageous and ones to be admired.

With Extreme Love comes Extreme Hate. Flow of Love from one part of the Universe to another generates a vacuum of Good that gives emergence to Evil. Sources of Good and Evil naturally are attracted to one another and on meeting generate the best harmony possible for that region of space-time and consciousness.
For consistent Harmony it is important to manage the levels of Love and Hate in a given space-time-mind. Shrewdness is something that is used by the Good and the Evil. The one who demonstrates the greater cunning promotes thei brand of energy. However strong someone gets, the Universe balances that shrewdness out by initiating greater and greater challenge to the growth of the individual. Eventually everyone succumbs to Death, whether it is as a result of running out of cunning or running out of Life.
Destiny is bound into the flow of Good and the flow of Evil in the Universe. In reality there is no Good or Evil, simply a flow of energy or a flow of relationship that exists because the Universe is in the process of establishing harmony across all the dimensions of space, time and consciousness.
Knowing Destiny is bound into the Universe's harmonisation process enables a person to achieve their purpose through the same process. Creating Harmony then is an Input for processes that move a person towards Destiny and an Output that moves the Universe into greater Harmony.
