Do you easily pick up on other people's vibes?
Can you tell how a person feels without asking?
Do you sometimes "catch" a mood without knowing where you caught it?
Empaths naturally tune-in to other's emotions. This gift is a double edged sword. Enhanced sensitivity to the feelings of others allow us to be compassionate, socially smart and aware of our surroundings, but this ability to feel the energy of others can also get in the way.
There's a reason children lose their natural psychic ability over time - being aware of how people think and feel can cause us to silence our own needs in favor of theirs.
While we don't want to get rid of our ability to tune-in to others, we do need to be able to "tune-out" sometimes. For example, if there is someone in your life who's controlling and becomes disappointed when you don't do what he or she wants. Or, if you sense that another person does not want you to be successful in some area of your life.
We can selectively "block" others from our psychic channels if they do not have our best interest at heart. Be aware of the fine line between blocking and avoiding. If you have a pattern of avoiding those who mirror aspects of yourself that you don't like to see, that is simply delaying your own growth and evolution. Tuning people out should be reserved for times when you are certain that there are no personal lessons to learn.
Most of us have some empathic ability. Learning to navigate this skill helps us shield ourselves from psychic attacks while preserving our energy flow and openness.

Hey Kim
Thanks for this one...I have to practice on a regular basis surrounding myself with a barrier of love and grouding so that I do not absorb what others are feeling AND so not to push my vibe onto others unknowingly... I visual True interaction, no ego, and Gods will.
Hope all is well!
Much love
g
That should say I "visualize" :) True interaction, no ego, and Gods will. ;)

Yes, these are excellent suggestions. Everyone is typically oriented towards 'allowing' all the energy vibrations in. It is very helpful to remember we don't have to 'allow' everything. We still get to choose and if it isn't a good vibration for us, we are not required to let it in, even those coming at us from a friend or family member.
G. Great point about not pushing your vibe onto others as well. I don't usually think of that angle, but it's so true..
Michael - great to have your spirit on here! The part about family members is key. Around my house we have regular dialogue that's something like this, "Hey, I'm trying not to get infected with your grumpyness, but it's getting difficult!" The awareness really helps shift the energy for the grumpy one:)
i grew up absorbing energy from the environment and was extremely sensitive. at 12, i decided i needed to "grow up" and "be a man". steeling myself against any emotional displays. my role models were "tough men" from the movies (my dad was a workaholic and mostly absent).
In the last 2-3 years, I allow myself to give and receive energy with compassion, and allow it to go through my body. i observe ecstatic moments, and the joy i feel, as well as depression, and the sadness it produces. The bhagavad gita says "Understand the three attributes within you - light, passion and darkness/inertia, but rise above these three. this can be accomplished by the practice of the yoga of knowledge, the yoga of devotion and the yoga of physical and esoteric practices."
love, sundar
Sundar - Being sensitive is a double edged sword indeed. It sounds like you've been at both ends of the spectrum and have found a way to integrate your feeling side with your masculine upbringing.
